ok, so while milking cows today I was thinking (surprise surprise)... btu what else do you do while doing such routine manual labour? .. anyways as my mind surfed through a multitude of thoughts I came up with a random game for you all to play. your on jury duty. The laws in this court are slightly different though, everyone gets tried as an adult and your verdict doesn't have to reflect any of our laws, you just have to give a guilty or not guilty (however if you want to explain your answer or give an idea for punishment go ahead)... just post your verdict as a comment to this entry. You have 3 cases.
case 1
Fred Smith is insane, he has created a man named Bob O'neil in his mind, Now Bob does not exist but to Fred he does.... one day Fred got mad at Bob and beat him to death with a baseball bat, As far as Fred knows He murdered a real person.... so is Fred guilty of murder?
case 2
Mr. Anderson had a dream last night. This was one of those dreams where you get to make decisions and at the time of the dream it is so real you think it is real. In the dream he choses to kill a man. He later wakes up to realize its a dream, but is he a murderer for choosing to kill the man?
Case 3
Charlie is a 10 year old boy with a vivid imagination. As most children do he creates world in his head for entertainment. He often becomes so absorbed in these worlds that they feel more real than the real world, however he is always aware deep down that they are not the real world even though he invests as much time in these alternate realities as the real world. He feels a closer connection to the characters in his fake world then to people in teh real world. One day in his imaginary kingdom he creates a new person and imediatley jumps on their shoulders and bites a few wholes in their juggular vein, killing them..... is he a murderer?
ok lets hear your opinions.

Well all these cases legaly would be not guilty under law but would probably be in a mental institute, but if in there hearts they belive they commited a murder than they are guilty to themselves
ya i dun care about legality, this is philosophical court, but good response
Human beings, especially those who are creative and sensitive, often retreat to their imaginations and dreams to deal with frustrations. In those environments, there are no consequences for whatever actions are taken. The human mind tries to deal with anger, disappointment, and frustration, as efficiently as it can. If there is no suitable resolution to these issues in 'real time,' then the imagination or dreams attempt to 'tidy up,' so to speak.
So, whatever one thinks or dreams is irrelevant, mostly, and only becomes a matter of concern if actions are taken in real life that could be harmful to oneself or to others. None of the people in your hypothetical situations would be guilty of anything.
Of course, if their preoccupations became obsessive, some introspection about why they might be fixated on violent actions might be in order.
All not guilty, but all need therapy and at least the first guy should be institutionalized.
Neat idea Jedi.
hmm.. toughy lets see.. Well that first guy, how he created a man in his head right? Well has it ever been taken that he may of actually killed someone, but was so fixed on it being the man in his head??? Like hes all angry at the man in his head right? Then he sees some random person on the street and he takes that person as the man in his head, and kills him. Insane people do that.. lol. So if that had happened guilty. Even if he did just kill the man in his head, he thinks he is real. So to himself he is guilty.
The guy who had a dream, not guilty. Because many things in a dream happens sure like in your dreams you make very weird decisions that you normally would not make.
The little boy, I think its pretty natural he created something and killed it... little boys have lots of extra temper issues than most adults would have. And he knows it isn't real. So not guilty.
*Lookie Jordan I found my blog!! lol*
i say they are guilty except the kid that bit the jugular vain....biting is always ok.
